Woods So Wild: Early Music at Discoed

Fontanella are delighted to be giving this performance as part of Early Music at Discoed, performing music from their album Woods So Wild, and a sneak preview of music their new album, The Nightingale’s Response. Both albums explore the theme of nature expressed in music, from the complex virelais of the French medieval Ars Nova, to the exquisite word painting of the Italian renaissance madrigal. Works include the remarkable birdsong chanson L’Alouette by Janequin, virtuosic divisions from the 17th century Division Flute, and Fontanella’s very own arrangement of Vivaldi’s concerto La Pastorella. A feast of feathery and leafy pleasures!
Tickets £15 (includes a drink) with an option to come for a buffet supper at 6pm.

Fontanella will present a family-friendly preview of their CD release concert, The Nightingale’s Response, ahead of their appearance at the Greenwich International Early Music Festival later in the week.
With music from the medieval and renaissance period up to the present day, including music by Machaut, Byrd, Purcell and Joseph Kosma, Fontanella’s programme will be performed on an array of instruments including their magnificent 15-piece renaissance recorder consort.
